Getting out of Heathrow Airport
Heathrow Airport is quite a way out of central London - it's actually right next to the Queen's home of Windsor Castle. So transport out of the airport can be quite costly. However, there are a number of of options you can use to travel to central London and other parts of the country.
Heathrow Express
The Heathrow Express is quickest and easiest way to get to central London. The non-stop train runs direct to Paddington, in the heart of London, taking around 15 minutes. The Heathrow Express is specially designed for passengers with loads of luggage - so there's no flighting inner-city commuters for space!
Once in Paddington you will need to rely on the rest of the London public transport system to continue on to your destination.
London Underground - The Tube
Using the Tube is the most cost-effective way of departing Heathrow. The airport has three Underground stations located at each terminal running on the Piccadilly Line and takes around an hour to reach the centre of London.
The downside to the Tube is it can get quite packed, no matter what time of day, and it can be quite cumbersome with your luggage – treat is as your initiation into the London transport system!
A one-way journey from Heathrow to central London will cost around £4.
Taxis
Taxis are the most expensive way of leaving Heathrow but the best choice by far after a long flight. If you can spare the cash a public “Black Cab” will cost you around £60 into the London CBD. You can pick up a Black Cab at the airport’s taxi ranks.
The other option is booking a “Mini Cab”, which are privately run taxis that are a little cheaper than the Black Cab. The same journey to the CBD will cost you around £50.
